2026 results released
Here are the key findings from the 2026 Central Highlands Business Survey.
- Overall business performance weakened in 2025–26, with the index falling to its lowest level on record. However, the result remained within the neutral performance range.
- The biggest shift this year was growing concern around demand and economic activity. Businesses increasingly reported concerns about customer spending and visitor activity.
- Businesses have been telling us for several years that costs are rising. This year, many reported those costs are affecting profitability, hiring and investment decisions.
- Despite challenging conditions, businesses demonstrated resilience and adaptability. Staffing improved, investment remained solid and most forecast indicators strengthened.
