ACTION 9 – TALENT ATTRACTION

This forms part of the Central Highlands Workforce Development and Accommodation Strategy.

Ensure that the Talent Attraction Campaign is considerate of the findings of this work and is timed appropriately.

Stage 1 to be focused on placing the region on the radar and then Stage 2 to target identified areas of need.

PROGRESS REPORT

April 18, 2024: CHDC held a Focus Group session, conducted by Neon Logic, to gather valuable insights to shape our Talent Attraction Strategy.

April 29, 2024: Our Talent Attraction Project progresses with the selection of individuals from key industries like early childhood care and education, construction, health, mining, and trades chosen to showcase the Central Highlands as a great place to work and live.

June 12, 2024: A survey opened to gain insights from employees in the region about their motivations and experiences. The data will help to inform the talent attraction campaign. The survey closed on 15 July and received over 400 responses.

June 15, 2024: Scheduled a two-day video shoot with Neon Logic for August 8th and 9th in the region to create video editorials showcasing staff in hard-to-fill roles across various industries, highlighting the Central Highlands as an attractive place to live and work.

July 1, 2024: Identified and approached talent in hard-to-fill roles across multiple industries for the video shoot, coordinating through their employers and management.

July 30, 2024: Neon Logic presents the Talent Attraction Research and Strategy draft to CHDC.

August 8 & 9, 2024: Conducted a two-day video shoot with Neon Logic and CHDC, filming stories of individuals in hard-to-fill roles across the region to promote the Central Highlands.

August 22, 2024: Neon Logic presented the Talent Attraction Research and Strategy to WAC members.

August 23, 2024: CHDC drafted the  Smart Move Employer Portal for stakeholders across all industries in the Central Highlands. This portal is designed for use during and after the Talent Attraction Campaign, providing valuable assets that stakeholders can leverage to promote their businesses in the region. It also offers tools and resources to assist in planning effective talent attraction campaigns and developing a strong talent pipeline, ensuring the continued growth and success of businesses in the Central Highlands. September 10, 2024, preparations were finalised for the launch of the Smart Move campaign, the largest recruitment marketing initiative in the Central Highlands. The campaign, premiering on October 1, 2024, highlights over 250 job opportunities across key industries and showcases personal stories of local employees in hard-to-fill roles. Stakeholders are encouraged to attend the launch event and access campaign materials to enhance their recruitment efforts. Details here.

October 1, 2024, the Smart Move campaign, Central Highlands’ largest recruitment effort, premiered with an audience preview of its first four films. View photos and read more here.

On October 8, 2024, the Smart Move Campaign launched with general awareness advertising highlighting the career growth benefits of moving to the region. The campaign utilized various advertising channels, including Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Google Paid Ads, and organic posts.

On October 17, 2024, the Smart Move campaign’s print media began to roll out in Emerald. The first banner was installed in the Airport Arrivals area, and a pull-up banner was placed in the Departure Lounge. Posters have been ordered for all libraries within the Central Highlands, and roadside banners have been designed and are awaiting delivery to key locations.

October, CHDC has developed and launched a metrics platform that allows stakeholders to access and monitor the campaign’s progress. View here.
