New Year Creeps Closer

With the best part of 2023 already done and dusted, it’s not too soon to start thinking about Beef2024! Rockhampton’s week-long exhibition of the Australian beef industry is just 242 days away.

Given the limited accommodation options in Rocky, CHDC is looking into chartering flights from Emerald a couple of times during the week. Due to the expense, we will only pursue this if our survey about the idea demonstrates there is enough demand.

If you are interested in flying into Rocky – either just for the day or multiple days – please complete the survey by 20 September.

As another alternative for those who haven’t locked in accommodation, Beef Australia has announced that there will be an all-inclusive (power, beds, linen, amenities) camping option, called Tent City, at Alf Kele Memorial Park. Bookings can be made when purchasing tickets online from next month.

AgCAREERSTART

Staying fixed on 2024, if you’re considering your options for increasing staff numbers, take a look at AgCAREERSTART.

This National Farmers’ Federation initiative gives young people a start in the industry by matching them to a registered farm for a 10-to-12-month program.

Participating farms will receive a $2,000 grant and support for mentoring and training their new employee.

CONGRATULATIONS

Before we get too carried away bidding farewell to 2023, there is one more key event in the CHDC calendar this year.

The Central Highlands Business Excellence Awards are taking place this Saturday and they include an agribusiness category to celebrate our region’s outstanding agricultural services companies. Springsure Rural and CQ Rural Traders are the finalists for 2023, which is recognition of their exceptional customer service and commitment to supporting their communities.

CQ Rural Traders is also a finalist in three other categories, including People’s Choice.
