FUEL CRUNCH FOCUS
16 April 2026
As we head into the tourism season across the Central Highlands, questions around fuel availability and media messaging have become an important focus for our regional tourism community.
To make sure we have a clear and accurate picture of what’s happening on the ground, we’re seeking your insights into current trading conditions across Queensland and the Central Highlands.
CHDC is working closely with Queensland Country Tourism (QCT), Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) and Tourism Australia (TA) to monitor impacts— particularly around fuel pricing and availability.
As part of this work, QTIC, in partnership with Regional Tourism Organisations and industry associations, is launching a coordinated Industry Pulse Survey.
We’re urging tourism operators in the Central Highlands to complete the survey here. It takes just 2–3 minutes and focuses on key indicators such as bookings, cashflow, cost pressures and overall business outlook.
This will help build a real-time understanding of the pressures and challenges being experienced across the sector.
The survey moves beyond anecdotal feedback and ensures we’re supported by consistent, reliable data when engaging with State and Commonwealth Governments, as well as national and local media.
Your support in completing this survey is greatly appreciated.
INDUSTRY NETWORKING
Registrations close at 5:00pm today, 16 April, for QCT’s Industry Networking Event taking place in Emerald.
This will be an opportunity to hear from Nichole Madin, QCT Industry Engagement Manager, who will provide an inside look at QCT’s role in promoting regional tourism within the broader tourism landscape.
These networking sessions are also an opportunity to share updates, exchange ideas, and strengthen relationships that support the long-term growth of our visitor economy.
