Tourism shoots for the stars

11 June 2025

Leading the news for tourism this month is Destination 2045, Queensland’s bold new plan to double visitor expenditure.

The 20-year strategy includes new ecotourism projects, national park upgrades, improved connectivity, world-class events, and streamlined regulation for a thriving visitor economy.

It also aims to expand Queensland Protected Areas, with nearly 9,000 hectares added to national parks and nature refuges, supporting conservation and new ecotourism opportunities like ‘Dark Sky’ projects.

The plan’s wide-ranging initiatives will help the Central Highlands move forward with its desire to showcase its natural assets and work with operators in developing geo and astronomy tourism initiatives.

Full details of the plan can be found here.
