Award Finalists Shine

What a whirlwind week we had visiting our 2025 Central Highlands Business Excellence Awards finalists!
After welcoming the independent judging panel to Emerald last Tuesday evening, we hit the ground running early Wednesday and didn’t slow down until Friday afternoon. With up to 12-hour days, we covered some serious ground – visiting finalists in Blackwater, around Emerald, out on cattle properties, and even squeezing in a few virtual catch-ups along the way.
This year’s judging panel consists of:
- Ben Hughes – Managing Director, Hughes et al
- Dominique Lamb – Queensland Small Business Commissioner
- Jennifer McGuire – Regional Manager, Central Queensland, AusIndustry
They brought fresh eyes, thoughtful questions, and a real enthusiasm for hearing the stories behind the businesses. It was such a privilege to see our local operators proudly share their successes, challenges, and big ideas for the future.
There was no shortage of passion, innovation, or community spirit – whether it was a family-run farm, a local retailer, or a business leading the way in their industry. The calibre of this year’s finalists is nothing short of inspiring, and it really highlighted just how much talent and determination exists across the Central Highlands.
A huge thank you to every business that welcomed us in. Your time, honesty, and hospitality made the week an absolute standout.
