eNews 28 May 2019 - CHDC's new Innovation and Development Coordinator
FROM THE DESK OF CHDC'S REGIONAL INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
My name is Matt McIntyre and I'm pleased to have recently joined CHDC in the position of Regional Innovation and Development Coordinator.
About the role
In terms of regional innovation, I will be continuing with work to promote the regional innovation objectives in the Central Highlands and Fitzroy regions. Specifically, I will help facilitate the growth of business entrepreneurial and innovation capabilities and act as a connector of local businesses to innovative people, places and programs.
In the regional development realm, I will be assisting with initiatives for sustainability and regional growth of business and industry in the Central Highlands. I will be assisting with research, information dissemination and strategies that support regional development initiatives. Essential for both work areas is the advancement of strategic partnerships and collaborative networks as well as healthy stakeholder engagement processes.
This role is supported by Advance Queensland - Department of Innovation, Tourism Industry Development (DITID). Advance Queensland supports programs that drive innovation, build on our natural advantages, and help tackle today's challenges and grasp tomorrow's opportunities.
My first priority tasks include coordinating CHDC's Industry and Innovation Forum on 25 July and HACKCQ on 16-18 August.
Originally from a mixed-farm in South Australia, I hold a range of qualifications and experience in urban and regional planning; resource management (soil and water management); and environmental management (regional sustainability).
For the past decade, I managed a sustainable development consulting firm based on the Sunshine Coast. Prior to that, I spent 10 years living and working in the Pacific and South East Asia regions. My prime role was managing a sustainable economic development program covering sustainable tourism, regional trade, land use planning and climate and disaster risk reduction. This work was sponsored by the United Nations and national governments in the region. From this role I was engaged by the UNDP New York to co-design, garner finance, then deliver the Global Sustainable Land Management Programme that targeted implementation in 48 of the poorest countries around the globe.
During the earlier part of my career, I assisted with the planning and management of commercial and industrial development in Canberra at the National Capital Development Commission. Before venturing overseas, I worked for local government in south-east NSW and spent some years managing new business development for major consulting firms.
Local family connections meant I was a frequent visitor to the Central Highlands some 20 years ago and I've been keen to return permanently, motivated by my life-long love of farming and my keenness to see innovative actions helping regional rural development.
