Think outside the box. Register now

Join CHDC and River City Labs for Central Highlands’ first-ever hackathon: 54 hours over one fun-filled, action-packed weekend where you get the chance to pitch, brainstorm and develop business plans that launch real, working startups. You bring your enthusiasm and a laptop, and we’ll supply the mentors, knowledge, and fuel to keep you powering through the weekend.

You must be passionate about technology and solving problems. You must be able to collaborate with like-minded individuals and mentors. You must be focussed on education, action, and innovation.

HACKCQ will provide the environment in which you can test ideas and take the first steps towards launching your own startup by getting feedback on concepts and linking you up with business founders, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute a high-growth business plan.

We are going to be looking at how technology aids service provision and growth in four key areas:

  • Resources
  • Agriculture
  • Advanced manufacturing, and
  • Environment

Come along, get hacking and think outside the box.

Is HACKCQ for teams or individuals?

We recommend that you come as an individual.  We will be mixing up participants into teams to ensure that your creative ideas flourish.  Please note that underage participants will be supervised by their guardians so will not be separated.

Do I need to have a pitch ready to go?

Nope! Hackathons work best when you come with a completely open mind and just act on whatever ideas pop into your head.  You don’t need to have a business plan or pitch prepared.

I won’t be able to make it for the full weekend, can I still come?

Yes, but we recommend you are available for the whole weekend in order to get the most value from your ticket.  If you cannot make one of the days, please let us know in advance.

What do I bring?

Just yourself, your enthusiasm and a laptop (optional).

 I’m a teacher attending with a student. Do I get a discount?

Absolutely.  If you are a parent or guardian of any underage students, your ticket price is only $20.  Please note that for the entire duration of the weekend you are responsible for all students you list as being a guardian for – you cannot be available for part days.  You must list the students you are responsible for at the time of registration.

I’m a high-school student and/or under the age of 18. Can I come?

If you’re in grade 10 or above, then yes.  Please note that you must be accompanied by a teacher, parent or guardian for the entire duration of the weekend.  You will need to nominate your guardian at the point of registration, so please don’t register until you have a guardian confirmed for all three days.

Who owns what we make at the event?

You retain full ownership of what is created during the event, barring any prior agreements you might have with employers, universities, etc… You own 100% of the IP that you create!
