Central Queensland has the greatest beef stock density of any region in Australia. It is internationally recognised as the Beef Capital of Australia with approximately 4.8 million head spread across the Central Queensland region. The Central Highlands Queensland region spans an area of almost 60,000 square kilometres and is located in the heart of Central Queensland.

As such the Central Highlands Development Corporation (CHDC) and Central Highland Regional Council (CHRC) contracted GHD to develop a Central Highlands Meat Processing Plant Feasibility Study to:

  • analyse the feasibility of Emerald as a location for a meat processing plant.
  • identify the economic viability and market demand.
  • provide recommendations for future actions.
