The judges were impressed by the professionalism in which Fairbairn Bakery operate their business; their commitment to becoming a tourism icon in the region and the foresight to identify and capture tourism as a key market to grow their business. The judges also didn’t know how to say this any other way but were impressed by the “brass ones” needed to expand and diversify their business during a downturn and to grow and succeed.

The contribution to their community through sponsorships and inkind support and their acknowledgement of the importance of environmental sustainability; which is reflected in the actions undertaken in reducing their environmental footprints. Lastly, the judges were impressed by the forward planning of these companies including such actions as succession planning and market and product diversification.

They had the vision to seize opportunities for new sales channels that diversity revenue streams and expand geographical markets.

It was a tight race in the assessment of the applications considered in this category due to the quality and initiative of many of the business operations. The judges ultimately decided on a winner who was able to demonstrate:
